The unique stable identifier for a marine taxon in the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS — World Register of Marine Species). doriiOS uses AphiaID as the join key across all enrichment sources:
- OBIS stores it as
acceptedNameUsageID on every taxon. - FishBase / SeaLifeBase key on it via the WoRMS cross-reference.
- IUCN Red List can be queried by scientific name and the result joined
back via WoRMS.
- AquaMaps publishes per-species rasters keyed on AphiaID.
In the vault, every species note carries the AphiaID in frontmatter:
``yaml aphiaID: 137090 scientificName: Balaenoptera musculus ``
Synonyms and homotypic alternatives are tracked at WoRMS but collapsed in the vault — only the accepted name gets a note.
